Pollo a la Brasa Aris

Himrod and Metropolitan, Queens

After church on Sunday (I didn’t forget, I’ll write about it this week) Henry and Sarah Sanchez wanted to bring us out to lunch. Naturally, Hispanic food would be the easy option. They brought us to this Dominican place that had lots of food on the menu we had never eaten before. I never realized how much variation in food there is below the border, but I guess it makes sense. Thus, we were excited to try something new.

We sat in a nice back area with plenty of seating for that type of place. There was no air conditioning and it was 95 degrees outside, personally I thought the heat complimented the place. They had some very loud music playing and Henry asked them to turn it down and when they did the environment was conducive to having a good conversation, which we did.

We needed some help from Henry to order, but in the end I got roast pork and Michelle got chicken stew. Both of use had rice and beans and an appetizer of fried and sweet plantains. Roast pork, good. Beans, not my thing. Rice, excellent. Fried plantains, tasty. Sweet plantains, bad to me, good to Michelle. Chicken, amazing. This chicken was seasoned great and the meat was falling off the bone. Both of us could only eat half of our plates so we took the rest back and ate it later.

I liked the place. I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of Dominican food, but the stuff’s alright.
