Canal and Mott
For our first real meal in NYC, we went to another restaurant on our list in Chinatown. Michelle was very excited because she loves Chinese food and we were told that the Wonton soup was delicious, which is her favorite. We took the 6 downtown and started walking along the grimy Canal Street. The restaurant was away from most of the people and clearly a favorite among Chinese immigrants. We quickly found out that the restaurant is on a cash only basis so we made a trip to the ATM.
When we got back we were seated and received amazing green tea. I’m not much of a tea person so it has to be perfectly balanced for me to enjoy it and this stuff was phenomenal. We ordered the Wonton soup, a plate of chicken and greens with rice, and I took a risk and got beef mixed in with scrambled eggs and topped with soy sauce. I really didn’t know what I was getting because our server spoke little English and was trying to explain something to me as if I was missing what the menu was trying to communicate. The soup was fantastic, best we’ve ever had. Rice, excellent. Our entrees were great to. Michelle couldn’t get over how good the beef and eggs were. The chicken was good and I appreciated the fact that it was once hanging in the window with the rest of his cohorts. All in all, it was very satisfying and the prices were very reasonable, even though I wasn’t sure if I was overcharged or not.
